Belief in Allah and Islam’s view in this regard

Belief in Allah

Allah Ta’ala is gracious to every one of His servants. Everything he does is for their welfare. He has spread innumerable blessings openly and secretly in the world for their well-being. Verily, no one can count his blessings. And His most tremendous favour and blessing on His servants is to send messengers to them, send down the Book, guide them to Islam, etc. And the claim of His blessings and grace is to be careful about rightly observing Allah Ta’ala’s right. The most important of Allah’s rights is belief in Allah. It is the main avenue of liberation and success in this world and the Hereafter. Without it, no one will succeed in the Hereafter. And by it, the difference between the believer and the disbeliever becomes clear.

So I will present some information about belief in Allah and related to it, which will clarify its fundamental matters. And I will describe every aspect of it so that everyone can easily understand its main purpose. So let’s know the meaning of it first.

Belief in Allah! What Is the Meaning of it?

Belief in Allah means believing in His existence. To believe that he is One and there is nothing like Him. To believe without any doubt that He is the only Lord (Rabb), He alone is worthy of worship, and no one else is worthy of worship. Verily, He is not dependent on anyone, but everyone is dependent on Him. And He has never had offspring, nor was He born. He has no wife, no children, no partner. Nor is there to Him any equivalent. And He has many names and qualities, must admit and believe wholeheartedly on those without hesitation.

Believing in His every word is also like believing in Him. Undoubtedly, the Qur’an is the book of Allah Himself. It’s every word, sentence, event, etc., is the word of Allah. To believe in every word, sentence, event, the event of the Quran is faith in Allah.

Belief in Allah and His last and final book Al-Quran

Al-Quran is the word of Allah which He has sent down to His Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him). There is no doubt that this book is a revelation from Allah and that all its contents are accurate. Indeed, this book has been appropriately preserved from the time of its revelation till today and will remain so till the Day of Resurrection.

Belief in Allah is acceptable only when a person believes in the whole Qur’an. So obeying some ruling of the Qur’an and disobeying some ruling and accepting the Qur’an in some areas of life, denying in some areas is a sign of not believing in Allah.

Essential things about believing in Allah

Faith in Allah involves four important things. The person who implements these four things will be considered a true believer. If he forsakes any of these, he will not be a real believer in Allah. And these four things are:

  • Believing in the existence of Allah
  • Believing in Allah’s authority and Lordship
  • To believe in Allah’s divinity and He alone is worthy of worship
  • Believing in the beautiful names and attributes of Allah

So I will describe the above things step by step. Insha Allah.

Believing in the existence of Allah

To acknowledge the existence of Allah. He is alive; He will never die. Everything will be destroyed, but He will not be non-existent. He was, is, and will always be; To believe all these without hesitation. Allah has spread the evidence of his existence everywhere. In this regard, Allah Ta’ala said:

“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the (Giant) ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits people, and what Allah has sent down from the heavens of rain, then He gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness; and He disperses therein every (kind of) moving creature, and (His) directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and earth (—in all of this) are signs for people of understanding.” [Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 164]

Allah Ta’ala also said: “Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators (of themselves)? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they have no firm belief (in Allah).” [Surah At-Tur, verse 35 – 36]

Believing in Allah’s authority and Lordship

One must be steadfast in the belief that Allah is the only Lord. He has no other partner in the management of this universe. He is the actual owner of creation, kingdom, management and planning. There is no creator other than Him. There is no actual owner but Allah. Indeed, there is no other world director without him. He is the Giver of knowledge to discover new things. In this regard, Allah Ta’ala said:

“O humankind, remember the favour of Allah upon you. Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from Heaven and Earth? There is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?” [Surah Fatir, verse 3]

“If you asked them, ‘Who created the heavens and earth and subjected the sun and the moon?’ they would indeed say, ‘Allah.’ Then how are they deluded? Allah extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts for him (whoever He wills). Indeed, Allah is of all things Knowing. And if you asked them, ‘Who sends down rain from the sky and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness?’ they would indeed say, ‘Allah.’ Say, ‘Praise to Allah’; but most of them do not understand.” [Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 61 – 63]

“Say, ‘Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Or who controls hearing and sight and who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and who arranges (every) matter?’ They will say, ‘Allah’; So say, Then will you not fear Him?” [Surah Yunus, verse 31]

To believe in Allah’s divinity and He alone is worthy of worship

To believe in the hearts that Allah is the only worthy of worship, the true God. No one else is his partner in worship. Worship only for Him. No one can be worshipped except Him, and no one else can be worshipped with Him. In this regard, Allah Ta’ala said:

“They have certainly disbelieved those who say, ‘Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary’ while the Messiah has said, ‘O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord, and your Lord. Indeed, he who associates others with Allah – Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers. They have certainly disbelieved those who say, ‘Allah is the third of three.’ And there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment. So will they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” [Surah Al-Ma’idah, verse 72 – 74]

“And do not invoke with Allah another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face (i.e., He Himself). All authority belongs to Him, and to Him, you will be returned.” [Surah Al-Qasas, verse 88]

“Whatever you worship instead of Him are mere names which you and your forefathers have made up, for which Allah has sent down no evidence. The decision is only for Allah. He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most people do not know.” [Surah Yusuf, verse 40]

Believing in the beautiful names and attributes of Allah

The names and attributes which Allah has mentioned for Himself in the Qur’an or the names and attributes that the Prophet (peace be upon him) have mentioned for Allah -to believe that these are determined only for Allah. Acknowledging that no one other than Him is worthy of these names and attributes and believing these for Him without hesitation. Allah Ta’ala said:

“Say, Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful (ar-Raḥman). Whichever (name) you call, He has the Most Beautiful Names. And do not recite (too) loudly in your prayer or (too) quietly but seek between that an (intermediate) way.” [Surah Al-Isra, verse 110]

“He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Shaper. He has the Most Beautiful Names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth (constantly) glorifies Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, All-Wise.” [Surah Al-Hashr, verse 24]

“Allah has the Most Beautiful Names. So call upon Him by them, and keep away from those who distort His Names. Soon they will be punished for what they used to do.” [Surah Al-A’raf, verse 180]

Our Dua to Allah

May Allah Ta’ala grant us all the grace to believe in Allah fully and give us the grace to stay away from all the deeds about which He is dissatisfied and keep others away from those deeds. Ameen.
