Masjid and it’s some important ruling

Masjid

There are many beautiful and interesting places in the world. And different people prefer different places. Of course, not everyone has the same choice. However, every believer in the world prefers a place where they love to stay for a long time. No one but the believer can stay in that place for long. That place is the Masjid. It is dearer to Allah than any other place in the world. And whatever is the dearest to Allah, it is surely most beloved to the believer.

So I will present some rulings related to the mosque, which are very important. At the same time, I will try to quote some words of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) concerning it. So let’s first know about the virtues of performing the obligatory prayers in the mosque.

Masjid and the virtues of performing the obligatory prayers in there

Narrated Abu Huraira (R.), The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah will prepare the place of hospitality in Paradise for him who goes to the Masjid (every) morning and in the afternoon (for performing obligatory prayer with the congregation) whenever he goes in the morning and the afternoon.” [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 662]

Abu Huraira (R) reported, The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Should I not suggest to you that by which Allah obliterates the sins and elevates the ranks (of a man)? They (the hearers) said: Yes, Messenger of Allah. He said: “Performing the ablution thoroughly despite odds, walking more and more towards the Masjids, and waiting for the next prayer after observing a prayer, and that is mindfulness.” [Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 251]

‘Uthman bin ‘Affan (R) said, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: ‘Whoever does wudu’ properly, then walks to (perform) the obligatory prayer, and prays with the people or with the congregation or in the Masjid, Allah will forgive him his sins.” [Sunan An-Nasa’i, Hadith No. 856]

Masjid and some of its etiquette

  • Trying to go to the mosque first.
  • Going to the mosque at normal speed.
  • Supplication while going to the mosque.
  • Supplication to enter the mosque.
  • Entering in the Mosque with the right foot.
  • Making intention for I’tikaf.
  • Performing two rak’ats of prayer.
  • Do not speak loudly.
  • Not to hurt anyone.
  • Do not talk nonsense.
  • Not to leave the mosque in a hurry after performing the obligatory prayers.
  • Exit the mosque with the left foot.
  • Supplication while going out from the mosque

Performing two rak’ats of prayer in the Mosque

Anyone who enters the mosque can perform this prayer at any time. But he will not perform this prayer at certain times. For example,

1. When the sun rises, when it stays in the middle of the sky and when it sets. In this regard, ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir Al-Juhani (R) said: There are three times during which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade us to perform the prayer or to bury our dead: “When the sun has clearly stated to rise until it fully rises; when it is directly overhead at noon until it has passed; and when it is drooped for set until it has fully set.” [Sunan An-Nasa’i, Hadith No 560]

2. When the prayer is running with the congregation, or when the Iqamah will start in a short while, and there is not enough time to perform two rak’ats of prayer. In this regard, Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “When the prayer commences, there is no prayer (allowed) but the obligatory prayer.” [Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 710]

3. If a person enters the Masjid Al-Haram to perform Tawaf, he does not need to perform two rak’ats of prayer. Tawaf will be enough for him as Tahiyat al-Masjid. In this regard, Aisha (R) narrated, ‘When the Prophet (peace be upon him) reached Mecca, the first thing he started with was the ablution, then he performed Tawaf of the Ka’ba.’ [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 1641]

Eating and sleeping in the mosque

Halal eating and drinking are allowed in the Mosque. But they must avoid creating chaos, bad-smelling the Mosque, scattering garbage etc. In this regard, ‘Abdullah bin Harith bin Jaz’ Az-Zubaidi (R) said: “At the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), we used to eat bread and meat in the mosque.” [Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith No. 3300]

Worshippers of Allah can rest and sleep in the Mosque. Islam allows it. In this regard, Abdullah bin `Umar (R) said: I used to sleep in the Masjid of the Prophet (peace be upon him) while I was young and unmarried. [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 440]

Leaving the mosque after Adhan

If someone enters the mosque, it is not lawful for him to leave the mosque after the call to prayer without any valid excuse. ‘Uthman (R) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever hears the Adhan when he is in the mosque, then goes out and does not go out for any (legitimate) need and does not intend to return, he is a hypocrite.” [Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith No. 734]

Buying and selling in the mosque

It is not allowed to buy and sell inside the mosque. Because Amr bin Shu’aib narrated from his father, (he narrated) from his grandfather that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade sitting in circles on Friday before Jumu’ah prayer and buying and selling in the Masjid. [Sunan An-Nasa’i, Hadith No. 714]

To come children to the mosque

If the children do not cause chaos in the mosque and do not bother the worshipers, surely they can come to the mosque. But if they cause chaos in the mosque, and harass the worshipers, then their guardians should keep them to their side, they should not give them up, and they must teach them the etiquette of the Masjid.

But if their guardian does not come to the mosque to pray, they should train their children in prayer and other aspects of Islam at home. You maybe know that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:

“Every one of you is a guardian and is responsible for his charges. The ruler who has authority over people is a guardian and is responsible for them, a man is a guardian of his family and is responsible for them; a woman is a guardian of her husband’s house and children and is responsible for them; a slave is a guardian of his master’s property and is responsible for it; so all of you are guardians and are responsible for your charges.” [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 2554]

Keeping the mosque closed at times other than the time of prayers

According to most scholars, there is no problem in keeping the mosque closed at any time other than the time of prayer to preserve the important and necessary things of the mosque, protect it from theft, and save it from various harms. [Al-Mawsoo’ah Al-Fiqhiyyah, page 23994]

Our Dua

May Allah Ta’ala grant us the correct understanding of the religion, the Tawfiq of obedience to Allah and His Messenger, and the grace of maintaining a strong relationship with the Masjid at all times. Ameen.
